GEMINI (October2025) Gemini IRAF package v1.17 GEMINI (October2025)
Release date: October 17, 2025
This release includes support of GNIRS following the refurbishment done in
2025. This is the first release of Gemini IRAF for 64-bit that has been
fully vetted by the Gemini IRAF.
Future releases will distributed only throught this channel. The old
32-bit conda-distributed releases will be phased out.
For installation instructions, see iraf.noirlab.edu.
-----
This version of Gemini IRAF has been tested against NOIRLab IRAF v1.18
in 64-bit with CL.
Note that the testing with Community PyRAF has highlighted issues with
PyRAF itself when run with 64-bit binaries. This affects mostly GMOS MOS
and F2 MOS reductions. Therefore, we recommend using CL to reduce data
from those modes.

PRIMARY REVISIONS
=================
1) Verified support for 64-bit.
2) GMOS package:
a) Support for a new GMOS-N R400 grating.
3) GNIRS package:
a) Support for the refurbished GNIRS.
4) F2 package:
a) Updated lookup table, f2offsets.fits
DETAILS OF THE REVISIONS
========================
Only the most notable changes or those more likely to be of interest to
the users are highlighted, minor bug fixes are not.
1) 64-bit
---------
This package has been run through Gemini's extensive regression test
suite. In collaboration with the CSDC, the issues found during testing
were resolved and this package is now vetted for 64-bit usage.
This version of the software is now recommended over the conda-distributed
32-bit version. The latter will be phased out.
2) GMOS Package
----------------
Instrument: GMOS
a) Support for the new GMOS-N R400 grating.
The GMOS lookup table for gratings has been updated to reflect
the characteristics of the new gratings. It will now be
possible to reduce data using that grating.
3) GNIRS Package
----------------
Instrument: GNIRS
a) Support for the refurbished GNIRS.
GNIRS was opened up for invasive work in northern summer 2025. The
various lookup table the reduction depends on have been updating to
add support for data post-refurbishment.
4) F2 Package
-------------
Instrument: F2
a) Update to erroneous lookup table.
Measurements for inputs to the lookup table f2offsets.fits were
redone and showed that one settings was very wrong. This has been
fixed now. The impact on previous reduction was simply that the
user had to make a manual adjustment. Now things should align
automatically.
